Friday, April 22nd, I went to J. Kirk Richards' Easter Studio Tour/Open House. The event took place in his very own home, a warm bungalow with glowing wood floors and white walls, decorated with Mr. Richards' work. There was one room full of mother and child paintings, while his garage/studio featured pictures of Christ's life. In that same room (the once-garage area) there were also a few hand sculpted angels, some finished, some not, but all very beautiful. I was able to speak with him for a moment and get his autograph on a little print of one of his paintings, "Cherubim and a Flaming Sword" (it is very fantastical) that I had bought at the BYU Bookstore.
Mr. Richards has self-published two children's books, I'll Be There With Belzon and The Big Move, so I asked him if he has any other children's books in the works. He replied in the affirmative, but said he is looking to go through a publishing company this time as self-publishing can be quite the task. My questions were cut short though, because he had many guests to visit with. So I finished looking around, then picked up a couple of free prints (the mother and child shown left) and headed home. I look forward to another studio tour sometime and hopefully a new children's book in the future too!
